nodebynode boundary conditions
Increasingly, we use time and space interpolated boundary conditions for forcing the liquid boundaries in our models using external model data (e.g. from HYCOM or other global model of tides+currents).
We have two ways of applying these: (1) Using a pre-interpolated ASCII boundary file, which applies the free surface and current velocities to each node per time step. (2) Automatically interpolating in time and space from a Selafin file (which is not the same mesh as the telemac model).
We propose to implement these in telemac2d (then also 3d) using a modified format for the LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE (for the ASCII method) and use a binary file ( e.g. BINARY DATA FILE 1, or a new keyword) for the automatically interpolated selafin method in BORD. An additional keyword called something like LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE OPTION will be added with three options, 1=constant values along the whole boundary (i.e. no spatial interpolation, as the existing method), 2=spatial values pre-specified in the ASCII liquid boundaries file for each node, or 3=automatically interpolated in space and time from a binary Selafin data file.
For the latter method, see the TUC presentation by Sebastian Escobar (2023) titled "Hydro-morphodynamics modelling for the mobilization assessment of UXOs and DMMs".
We will be doing the developments in the branch called "nodebynode_boundary_conditions".
